Rock of Ages and Joey Ramone Birthday bash

posted Thursday, 21 May 2009

Monday night I invited Catherine, my right hand on my massage team to join me watching the Rock of Ages show. The lead guy,  Constantine Maroulis uses my massage team from time to time, as do a few others in the cast, so I had to see what it was all about and paid $85 each ticked to do so (I don't always get free tix, or expect them)

 Catherine outside the theater ^

The only bad part about this show is the they keep the theater at what seems to be below zero temperatures. Everyone had their jackets on and it was also REALLY cold out that night, so I don't get it, why Americans LOVE to fucking crank the AC when we need to all conserve energy and try and stop global warming, etc. UGH. I watched the show with all of my jackets on and hat and I was still slightly purple the whole time.

When you enter they pass out fake lighters, that do light up, to hold up during cheesy love songs, and of course we did. They did NOT play any Def Lep songs and the singer of White Snake announced it on the loud speakers as to why, because Def Lepp didn't approve it. He also went on to say "texting during the show makes you look stupid and if you have one of those blue tooth head sets in your ear, well, you look like  a Dick". haha.

We got excellent seats, 4th row from the stage and loved it all. The story had a few similarities in it to Hair, Grease and even the movie Rock Star. They burst into 80's song the whole time, songs from artist like Pat Benetar, Journey, Reo Speedwagon, Survivior, Ratt? Quiet Riot, Foreigner and many others. It was awesome and EVERYONE in the cast is multi-talented as FOOK!

After the play we popped into an Irish bar (neither of us are drinking alcohol at all) and then we drove around and took pictures in the city as she is from 'what's new in BALTIMORE' and loves the sights and sounds of the city.

In the middle of it all ^

My pants look so strange on these steps ^

I can not tell a lie, I got into this one for free, since I used to date Joey for 3 years and well, Bubbles, the production manager was there when I first met Joey.

Fishbone who has been using my massage team for ages, were backstage and I finally got to meet them. They were like "YOU are Dr. Dot, for real!??" it was hilarious. Norwood ^ the bassist for Fishbone is mad cool. He knows Ike Willis and just got done laying some tracks down with him. Small world, innit?

I hope to GAWD Ike makes it this summer to the Zappanale. In 2007 he was supposed to come but missed his plane and SO many fans were dissapointed.

Bebe Buell was there and performed with her band as well. You think she looks good in pictures? That's not even close to how gorgeous she is in person. Breath taking. She steals the scene when she walks into the room. No wonder so many rock stars went for her. She is GORGEOUS. She was very friendly to me and told me she's heard about me before and took my card as she is a big massage fan :)

Monte Melnick , who toured with the Ramones for 22 years and who I first met when I was 14 1/2, was there, but sadly Arturo Vega didn't make it, as he is out of town until May 24th. I am SURE this is the first EVER Ramones related even that Arturo has missed. It wasn't the same without Arturo.

I still haven't really gotten over the fact  Monte didn't mention me in his book "On the road with the Ramones". He says because I was SO YOUNG, it would have made Joey look creepy, so he left me out :(

Not Joey's fault, I told him I was 19 when I met him and naturally with my boobs being so huge and the make up and heels, well, he believed me. Guys don't ask for identification when a girl is really hot. Well, at least then didn't back then. R. Kelly obviously doesn't. ha ha

Celebrating what would have been the 58th birthday of punk icon Joey Ramone, the annual Joey Ramone Birthday Bash will take place Tuesday, May 19 at The Fillmore New York at Irving Plaza. Mickey Leigh, event organizer and brother of Joey Ramone, has announced that, as part of the ninth annual Bash, fans will be treated to a special advance sneak peek listen to rough mixes of never-before-heard Joey Ramone solo recordings. Various producers, including longtime RAMONES producer Ed Stasium, are currently preparing tracks for a full album's worth of material, slated for posthumous release at the end of the year.

This year's headliners are FISHBONE and SUPERSUCKERS. The spectacular party will conclude with THE FRIENDS OF JOEY, featuring Richie Ramone, Handsome Dick Manitoba, Jean Beauvoir, Ivan Julian, George Tabb, Al Maddy and Mickey Leigh. Also appearing are DEATH and ROUGH FRANCISNew York Times on March 12), UNCLE MONK (featuring Tommy Ramone), Bebe Buell, and TOM CLARK & THE HIGH ACTION BOYS. As the audience enters the venue they will once again be greeted by musician Tracy Thornton, playing RAMONESsongs on the steel drum. And, in what has become a Birthday Bash tradition, Sean O'Sullivan's PUNK PIPERS will round out the night on the bagpipes. The fete will be emceed by Matt Pinfield and Peter Aschner. Additional surprises are expected at the evening's events.

Ramone, who passed away in April 2001 after a seven-year battle with Lymphoma, had a history of encouraging up-and-coming bands in New York's downtown music scene by showcasing them at his special "Joey Ramone Presents…" events. Since Ramone's passing, his brother and their mother Charlotte Lesher carried on the tradition "by featuring bands that make great music and getting together some of Joey's friends to celebrate him on what would otherwise be a sad, somber day," Leigh explained.

Tickets are available in advance at the Fillmore box office for$25 ($30 day of show) or through LiveNation.com. The Fillmore is located at 17 Irving Place, corner 15th Street, New York City. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.

For ongoing updates, visit www.joeyramone.com. Net proceeds from the Bash go to support the Joey Ramone Foundation for Lymphoma Research.
